U.S.S. Newport

Federation Research Science Vessel

The Olympic class starship was originally conceived of as a high speed medical ship. To that end this class of starship includes extensive medical facilities, science labs, and support systems. Though some of the ships in this class have been converted to conduct research oriented missions, there is still a group of the vessels equipped as mobile hospital and relief vessels.

Like other science vessels, the Research Science Vessel performs well in the role of support. It can be used to knock out enemy systems using its built-in abilities. In terms of weaponry slots the ship remains competitive against enemy vessels and other tier 3 Starfleet ships with its 3 fore and 2 rear weapon slots. Its one engineering and one tactical console does impact the ship however given the array of very helpful consoles available to players in those two areas.

The ship is quite maneuverable for its size although still lags behind that of the Escort even with extra turn rates from an engineering console and extra power to its Auxiliary subsystem.

Advisory Role

Meeting Recording - Office Admiral Quinn - Time Index Stardate 90391.19.113

Captain Drusath: Lieutenant Commander Drusath T'pheon reporting as ordered sir.

Admiral Quinn: At ease commander. You look not too worse for wear. I understand there was a problem as the Reykjavik began the docking procedure?

Drusath: Yes sir. The port side power coupling had a catastrophic failure and damaged the moorings and two RCS thruster assemblies. We loss partial attitude control as we were docking.

Quinn: Things are under control now?

Drusath: Yes sir.

Starbase 24

Starbase 24

Captain's Log:

The U.S.S. Reykjavik is on course for the Sol system at low warp. Heavy damage to the ship and weakening of the structural integrity systems has limited our top speed to warp five. After three days of fighting and assisting with the rescue and recovery efforts at Starbase 24 we have been recalled to the San Francisco fleet yards for repairs.
The Reykjavik and her crew have suffered greatly in these last few engagements. All told we have 35 crew dead along with 17 missing and presumed lost. There are at least 171 reported injuries. There are several decks that have become uninhabitable due to hull breaches and structural damage. There is also extensive structural damage all along the secondary hull and warp nacelles. A plasma fire on deck 15 is under control, but has made most crew quarters uninhabitable due to hard radiation. Engineering reports it will be at least a week before they can safely gain entry to these sections again.
Among the injuries is Lieutenant Ozin. He was on deck 15 evacuating the crew there when the plasma fire broke out. He has extensive second and third degree burns though Dr. Janot assures me that he will make a complete recovery. Until he is back on his feet I have Three of Nineteen filling his shoes. As has become her hallmark she is handling her additional duties with efficiency and detachment.

Rest & Relax

"Dwell in peace in the home of your own being, and the Messenger of Death will not be able to touch you." Guru Nanak

Shipboard Recording - U.S.S. Reykjavik - Time Index 90375.15.153

Captain's Log:

The Reykjavik is on a course to Starbase 24. After our last mission dealing with the Gorn and the hard last few weeks of fighting against the Klingons both the ship and her crew are starting to show the strain. Even our single holodeck has been damaged and requires an overhaul. The starbase will have recreation facilities far better than anything on board. There are also the repair births and repair crews needed to get this ship back to 100%. I must note that Lieutenant Gerok, my chief engineer, and his engineering crews have done an excellent job in the face of massive challenges during the last few weeks. I am going to recommend commendations for the entire department to Admiral Quinn.
We have several passengers onboard that are anxious to move on to their next posting. The 17 scientists we saved from the Gorn will no doubt be transferred along after we drop them off at the starbase. Overall this visit should be a well earned rest-bit from our otherwise chaotic last few weeks.
I have contacted Starfleet Command and received approvals for the Reykjavik's downtime and crew leaves on Starbase 24, but we have yet to receive a response from the starbase quartermaster or dock control to schedule our arrival. Its a bit unusual...

Episode 6: Researcher Rescue

Gorn!

Captain's Log:

We're approaching the Kasse system in response to orders from Starfleet to investigate a research station that is overdue to be heard from. At this range we should be able to cut through the interference in the system and establish contact, but we still have heard no replies to our hails. Long range sensors show indications of vessels in the vicinity of the orbital relay. I've ordered the ship to yellow alert in the event those ships are hostile.
